Dr. Curt Merlau is a former educator and administrator with expertise in designing, developing, and deploying large-scale digital transformations within state departments of education. Curt currently serves as a manager within the education practice at Public Consulting Group (PCG). PCG is a leading provider of management consulting and technology solutions specifically for public sector education agencies. They are best known for helping schools and districts manage special education compliance and maximize Medicaid reimbursements through their data-driven EDPlan suite. Additionally, they are a major player in professional development, particularly for their Science of Reading training and STEM curriculum support. Their work focuses on improving student outcomes by bridging the gap between complex government policy and daily classroom instruction.
In a previous role, Curt led the implementation of several statewide longitudinal data systems, or P20W data systems, across the country. Curt also led the team responsible for an innovative Profile of a Graduate platform, Indiana Graduates Prepared to Succeed (IN GPS).
Curt received his bachelor's degree in education from Taylor University and taught at an inner-city public charter school in Indianapolis before overseeing 16 alternative high schools throughout Indiana. He has a master's in educational leadership and administration from Indiana University. In 2023, he completed his doctorate studies in organizational learning and leadership from Vanderbilt University's Peabody College. His capstone studied the role of an SEA in implementing Comprehensive School Mental Health Systems.
Curt resides in Indiana and serves on the board of Indiana's Association for the Gifted (IAG) supporting high-ability learners in Indiana, focusing on advocacy, professional development, and community building.
